All work and no play
July 3, 2011Anyone following my blog (talking to you, Mom), knows I haven't updated much in the past year -- and that's mainly because I've been busy. I've joined the corporate world in hopes of making real money and doing something with my life... though I feel like it has been more of a drain on my soul than anything else.
Despite how depressing that might seem, I'm in a good place currently and enjoying what I do, mainly because it affords me the time to continue my work on the side. I've added a few new things to my portfolio, some new logos and updated screenshots on projects I've revamped.
I hope to be able to include more on my bigger project in the next few months, but who knows how much will fall out of the sky to distract me from that goal.
about me
My name is Matt Stone, and I'm a 24-year-old graduate from Arizona State University. I graduated from ASU in December 2008 after 3 1/2 years of studying in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition to my bachelor's degree in journalism, I also left school with a minor in sociology -- a field in which I've had an interest since high school.
I like to think of myself as having a wide-range of passions and skills. Chief among these are web-related technologies, communications and editorial. I've had the opportunity to work with a number of different professional sports teams and their respective communications departments, including the Arizona Cardinals, Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury.
I am currently employed with Axway, a global software company, where I work in the marketing department and help to produce collateral, graphics, maintain website content in five different languages and manage promotions with lead automation management.
Along with these various organizations, I maintained my own business of web and graphic design, utilizing techniques and languages ranging from PHP to MySQL. Having self-taught in the web arena, I've always had a leg up on my peers with the journalism industry transitioning to the Internet.
I have also served as a reporter and editor of The State Press, ASU's daily student-run newspaper. Reporting on in-depth stories and breaking news has helped me become well versed in AP style and computer-assisted reporting techniques.
